More Info:
In June 2023, Design Investigations Department is looking to publish a new book that foregrounds the changing role of design and design education in our complex and deeply uncertain world. As design is evolving in a constant feedback loop between practice and education, mutually defining and redefining each other, both are embedded in a rapidly moving and changing society facing challenges that call for continuous updates of any forward looking discipline. It is the duty of an academic institution like the University of Applied Arts in Vienna to ask the relevant questions
about the future of artistic and scientific practices and education. The department of Design Investigations is the obvious site for such an inquiry within the domain
of progressive design. The book will be published by Birkhäuser in the book series Edition Angewandte. The publication will be co-edited by Professor Anab Jain and Design Investigations Senior Tutors. It will be co-authored by the tutors, students and prolific guests of the department, alongside invited visionary thinkers and practitioners. We are seeking a highly advanced communicator with a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of editorial practices including copyediting and proofreading in an academic or design environment. Your experience will involve
working in an editorial setting as well as with subject experts, design teams and
freelance contributors. Design Investigations is for the curious and critically engaged and so an interest in what we do is also important.
As an assistant editor, you will work with the editor, senior tutors and administrator, as well as all contributors to support the preparation and delivery of the publication. You will copy-edit to a high standard and maintain detailed editorial / production schedules in accordance with budgeted hours and agreed deadlines, keeping the wider team informed of project status.

About Design Investigations
Design Investigations is a design course at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
It’s for the curious and the critically engaged. It’s for people who want to face the complexities and uncertainties of our world head-on. It’s for the responsible radicals who want to challenge and change the world around them. It's a place where people come together to design tools, experiences, stories and provocations that help create a more hopeful and humane future for us all.
DI challenges the twentieth century models of design education that fed an industrial, consumer-led society, which is no longer sustainable. The course expands on a rich history of industrial and product design teaching to include speculative design, experience design, material investigation and much more.
