Gesucht sind Personen mit Erfahrung im Bereich Festivalkonzeption, Performance, Kunst und Aktivismus. Bewerbungen bis 23. März möglich.
Die Ausschreibung richtet sich an Personen mit ausgewiesener Expertise im Bereich Festivalkonzeption und -organisation, Performance, Kunst und Aktivismus. Folgende Aufgaben warten auf die neue künstlerische Leitung:
- zeitgemäße Weiterentwicklung des Festivals WIENWOCHE im urbanen und Wien-spezifischen Kontext ab dem Jahr 2026
- Gesamtkonzeption, Plan und Durchführung des Festivals
- kuratorische und künstlerische Begleitung der Festivalprojekte
- zielorientierte Zusammenarbeit mit der kaufmännischen Leitung unter Berücksichtigung der verfügbaren Budgets
- Organisation und Umsetzung der Veranstaltungen
- Erschließung neuer Öffentlichkeiten und mediale Positionierung
- Berichtswesen und Projektabrechnung
- Personalverantwortung für Team und Künstler*innen
Die Bewerber*innen sollten folgendes Profil erfüllen:
- fundierte Erfahrungen im künstlerischen Kuratieren und Kulturmanagement
- profunde Kenntnisse der freien Szene Wiens
- hohe Motivation, Eigeninitiative und Teamfähigkeit
- diskriminierungskritisches Bewusstsein und diversitäts-sensibles Know-how
- Zuverlässigkeit, Flexibilität und Belastbarkeit insbesondere während der Festivalzeit
- Medienkompetenz und Mehrsprachigkeit von Vorteil
- selbstständige und strukturierte Arbeitsweise
Rahmenbedingungen:
- Vertragsdauer: Zwei Jahre mit Möglichkeit auf einmalige Verlängerung
- Gehalt: 3150 Euro brutto, 14 Monatsgehälter auf Basis 30 Wochenstunden
Die Bewerbungsunterlagen sollen neben einem aussagekräftigen Lebenslauf inkl. Portfolio ein künstlerisches Konzept (max. 2 Seiten) enthalten, das die Festival-Jahre 2026 und 2027 einschließt. Die Gespräche mit einer Auswahl an Bewerber*innen finden zwischen 1. und 10. April 2025 statt. Eine Einarbeitungsphase ab Sommer 2025 ist für eine reibungslose Übergabe der Leitungsagenden vorgesehen.

Über WIENWOCHE
WIENWOCHE ist ein jährliches Kunst- und Kulturfestival in Wien, das seit 2012 jeweils für zehn Tage im September stattfindet. Es positioniert sich als (post-)migrantisches, queer-feministisches Festival für Kunst und Aktivismus und versteht Kulturarbeit als aktive Teilnahme an gesellschaftlichen, politischen und kulturellen Debatten. Ziel ist es, die künstlerischen und kulturellen Praxen zu erweitern und sie für alle in Wien lebenden sozialen Gruppen zugänglich zu machen. Die Stadt Wien ermöglicht die WIENWOCHE mit einem jährlichen Förderbetrag von 480.000 Euro.

WIENWOCHE seeks for an artistic director from 2026
We are looking for people with experience in festival conception, performance, art and activism. Applications possible until 23 March.
The call for applications is aimed at people with proven expertise in the fields of festival conception and organisation, performance, art and activism. The following tasks await the new artistic director:
- contemporary further development of the WIENWOCHE festival in an urban and Vienna-specific context from 2026 onwards
- overall conception, planning and realisation of the festival
- curatorial and artistic supervision of the festival projects
- target-orientated cooperation with the commercial management, taking into account the available budgets
- organisation and implementation of the events
- development of new audiences and media positioning
- reporting and project accounting
- personnel responsibility for the team and artists
Applicants should fulfil the following profile:
- sound experience in artistic curating and cultural management
- in-depth knowledge of the independent scene in Vienna
- high motivation, initiative and ability to work in a team
- awareness of discrimination and diversity-sensitive expertise
- reliability, flexibility and resilience, especially during the festival period
- media skills and multilingualism are an advantage
- independent and structured way of working
General conditions:
- contract duration: Two years with the possibility of a one-off extension
- salary: 3150 euros gross, 14 times a year, based on 30 working-hours per week

Interviews with a selection of applicants will take place between 1 and 10 April 2025. A familiarisation phase from summer 2025 is planned to ensure a smooth handover of the management agendas.

About WIENWOCHE
WIENWOCHE is an annual arts and culture festival in Vienna that has been held for ten days in September since 2012. It positions itself as a (post-)migrant, queer-feminist festival for art and activism and sees cultural work as active participation in social, political and cultural debates. The aim is to expand artistic and cultural practices and make them accessible to all social groups living in Vienna. The City of Vienna enables WIENWOCHE with an annual grant of 480,000 euros.
