Job Vacancy: Talk show writer-editor for Standard Time - a Digital Talk Show by Eurozine for Display Europe

Eurozine is looking to hire a writer editor for our soon forthcoming digital talk show, Standard Time. This programme combines an interest in European affairs with critical inquiry, and present it in an engaging an accessible tone. We are seeking an individual who can combine creative writing with journalistic inquiry, can crack a joke or two, and lift up the phone and chew on people’s ears when necessary. 

About Standard Time

Standard Time is a digital talk show that takes a fresh and comedic approach to hot topics in continental Europe. Our topics range from elections to green cities to STDs. 

Produced by Eurozine for Display Europe, the show combines humour with in-depth critical analysis. Each episode invites experts and professionals working on the forefront of the discussed topics, creating an engaging and insightful experience for our audience.

Responsibilities:

As a Writer/Editor for Standard Time, you will play a key role in shaping the content and tone of the show. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Research: conduct research on the chosen topics to provide background information and insightful questions for the guests.
  • Creative writing: develop engaging and humorous scripts for the opening monologues, ensuring a balance between entertainment and critical inquiry. Scripts need to be written with clarity, coherence, and entertainment value in the forefront, ensuring they align with the show's overall vision.
  • Booking: selecting and booking guests for the discussions, in close collaboration with the producers;
  • Team work: work closely with the production team, including producers, hosts, and guests, to create cohesive and compelling episodes.
  • Stay on top of things: stay informed about current events and trends in Europe to identify relevant and timely topics for the show.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a writer/editor, preferably in a digital or broadcast environment;
  • Strong knowledge of European affairs and a keen interest in current events;
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and engaging manner;
  • Creativity and a sense of humour, with the ability to approach serious topics with a lighthearted touch;
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and collaborate effectively in a team.

Working hours: 18 hours/week

Timeframe of employment: Starting 1 December 

Fixed contract until June 30, 2024, with a possibility of extension.

Salary:  Euro 940,-/month, gross (plus half-yearly special payments)
